Monkey Mountain

High above Kintzheim, Monkey Mountain (Montagne des Singes) is home to more than 200 Barbary macaques in a 24-hectare forest. There are no cages or bars here: the monkeys live in semi-freedom and it is the visitors who walk among them, along a marked trail through the woods.

At the entrance, everyone receives popcorn to offer the macaques, an encounter that delights young and old alike. Throughout the day, keepers explain the life of the group and the work carried out to protect this endangered species, native to Morocco and Algeria.

Good to know: allow about 2 hours for the visit. The park is open in season, from March to November; check the calendar before you come.
