“Simply unique”

Wallpaper Museum

Two centuries of wall decoration to rediscover in the former Teutonic Order commandery in Rixheim.

Housed since 1983 in the right wing of the Rixheim Commandery, an 18th-century building that is also home to the town hall and the still-active Zuber manufactory, the Wallpaper Museum reveals a decorative art we think we know. Awarded the Musée de France label, it brings together wallpapers from the 18th century to the present day, from domino papers to creations by contemporary designers.

Reopened in July 2026 after nearly three years of works, the museum first showcases the printing machines and the famous woodblock-printed panoramic wallpapers that made Zuber’s name. Upstairs, the new trail “One collection, three points of view” combines the history of techniques, a behind-the-scenes look at the collections project and monochrome pieces. A free activity booklet is available for children aged 8 and over.
