Museum of Fine Arts

Bouguereau, Henner and Brueghel the Younger to discover free of charge in an elegant 18th-century mansion.

Housed since 1971 in the Villa Steinbach, a mansion built in 1788 on Place Guillaume Tell, the Mulhouse Museum of Fine Arts was born of the passion for painting of the industrialists of the Société Industrielle de Mulhouse. Awarded the Musée de France label, it presents works from the 15th to the 20th century from the French, Flemish, Dutch, German and Italian schools.

Painting from 1860 to 1914 forms the heart of the collection, with canvases by William Bouguereau and Jean-Jacques Henner alongside Brueghel the Younger and many Alsatian artists. Renovated in 2017, the tour spans the Middle Ages to the 20th century, while the second floor is devoted to temporary exhibitions. Admission is free, as are the tours and workshops offered throughout the year.
