Cité du Train
Three areas and 60,000 m² to relive the golden age of French railways, from steam to official trains.
Opened on a temporary basis in 1971 on the initiative of the Société Industrielle de Mulhouse, with the agreement of SNCF, the former French Railway Museum moved in 1976 to the Dornach district. Now the Cité du Train, it spreads three visitor areas over 60,000 m²: the Spectacle Trail with its sound and light displays, the Platforms of History with their rows of locomotives, and the open-air Railway Panorama.
Saloon cars from official trains, a 1930s Micheline, steam locomotives and mountain snowploughs: each piece of rolling stock recalls a part of everyday life linked to the railway. Some can be visited inside. Awarded the Famille Plus label, the museum lends free activity booklets to children. Allow at least two hours, with a possible break at Le Mistral restaurant.
