Unterlinden Museum

Housed in a 13th-century Dominican convent, the Unterlinden Museum is one of the most visited museums in France outside Paris. It is home to the Isenheim Altarpiece, painted by Grünewald and carved by Nicolas of Haguenau in the early 16th century, one of the masterpieces of Western art.

Around the Gothic cloister, the collections span more than 7,000 years of history, from archaeology to Alsatian folk art and medieval and Renaissance paintings and sculptures. The extension designed by the architects Herzog & de Meuron, opened in 2015, houses modern and contemporary art, with works by Monet, Picasso, Léger and Dubuffet.

Good to know: allow at least 2 hours for the visit. The museum is included in the Colmar City Pass.
