Museum of Printed Textiles

Indiennes, printed cloths and patterns from all over the world: the history of textile printing in Alsace's fabric capital.

Heir to the collections assembled from 1833 by the industrialists of the Société Industrielle de Mulhouse to inspire their designers, the Museum of Printed Textiles occupies a late 19th-century building near the station. It holds millions of samples and tens of thousands of textile pieces from the 18th century to the present day, focused on Alsatian printing but open to designs from all over the world.

The tour explains how a printed fabric is made, from the drawing to the engraving of woodblocks and then roller printing, through indiennes, shawls, scarves and fabrics from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Temporary exhibitions, woodblock printing demonstrations and workshops extend the experience; allow an hour and a half to two hours.
